1. Information We Collect
FayEDU (operated by Fay Institute of eLearning) collects information you provide directly and information generated as you use the platform:
- Account information: name, email address, password (hashed), and profile details you choose to share.
- Course and learning data: courses you create or enroll in, progress, quiz answers, completion records and certificates.
- Payment information: billing name and transaction records. We do not store full card numbers — payments are processed via Paystack.
- Usage data: pages visited, features used, device type, browser, IP address, and session timestamps.
- Communications: messages you send via our contact form or support channels.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, personalise and improve the FayEDU platform and your learning experience.
- Process payments and issue certificates of completion.
- Send transactional emails (account confirmation, purchase receipts, course updates).
- Send marketing communications where you have opted in (you can opt out at any time).
- Monitor platform safety, prevent fraud and enforce our Terms & Conditions.
- Analyse aggregated, anonymised usage data to improve platform features.
3. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on secure cloud infrastructure (Amazon Web Services) with data centres primarily located in the EU and US. We implement industry-standard security measures including:
- Encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest (AES-256).
- Regular security audits and penetration testing.
- Access controls limiting who within our team can view personal data.
- Automated backups with point-in-time recovery.
No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password and to contact us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.
4. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers: trusted third-party vendors who process data on our behalf (e.g., Paystack for payments, AWS for hosting, email delivery providers) under strict data processing agreements.
- Course creators: if you enroll in a course, the creator receives your name and email to manage your enrollment. They may not use this for unrelated marketing.
- Legal requirements: where required by law, court order or regulatory authority in Kenya or your jurisdiction.
- Business transfers: in the event of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your data may be transferred. You will be notified in advance.
5. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Correction: update inaccurate or incomplete information via your account settings.
- Deletion: request that we delete your account and personal data (subject to legal retention requirements).
- Portability: request your data in a machine-readable format.
- Opt-out: unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any email or by contacting us.
